Simon could hear the cannon fire from his underground bunker. The British were firing on the fort for at least three days now. Food was low, and the moral of his men was running low. General Washington and the whole American country had forgotten all about this little fort in Canada. All Simon wanted to do was go home to his Sabrina and his son. He didn't want to spend his 23 birthday out on the battlefield. Hell, he didn't even want to be fighting in the first place.
"Sir, what should we do? The British are not going to let up, and we're too weak to fight." One of the soldiers asked Simon.
Simon wasn't even a General. He was a simple foot soldier who just so happened to be able to control the Sargent's men. Then the Sargent got shot, and the men turned to Simon. Simon didn't like it one bit, but he took charge anyway.
"Well, we could surrender or we can hope they run out of cannon balls. Let me think about this. Go take care of the sick and wounded why I think." Simon ordered.
The soldier did as he was told, and Simon sat in a chair, thinking hard and long on this. If they surrendered there was no telling what the British would do to them, but if they kept resisting then they would most likely all die. Simon smiled, and got up.
"Men! I have a plan, but you all need to get out of here and hide in the woods. I think there might be a tunnel in the well that will lead you all to the springs. I am going to surrender and clam that they killed off all my men. So leave the dead and wounded here. There is nothing more you all can do except run back home." Simon ordered.
The men followed their orders, and Simon stayed behind. His plan worked, and the British let him live. He was able to go home after the war was over. The American nation won her freedom, and Simon was forgotten.
